Emirates ID required for Online Notarisation

On September 13, 2023 circular No. 6 of 2023 entered into force, which outlines the processes for online notarisation. This circular demonstrates a substantial development that will have an effect on individuals and businesses involved in online notarisation transactions within Dubai jurisdiction.

Prior to the introduction of Circular No. 6, individuals residing abroad were able to proceed with online notarisation by using their passports hence eliminating the need for attestation up to UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFA).

According to the new circular, individuals residing abroad must now present their Emirates ID for the notarisation process to proceed. Failure to provide an Emirates ID will result in the inability to complete the online notarisation process. Alternatively, the individual may choose to notarise the document in their country of residence and proceed with attestation up to the UAE (MOFA).

For individuals in Dubai who do not possess an Emirates ID (such as visitors), it is still possible to utilise online notarisation by presenting their passport and providing evidence of their physical presence in Dubai.
